Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often defined by bleakness, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat style.
"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about following this charming family navigate their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
The Path Forward
Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to experience the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
