Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his position after another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, marking the club's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points naturally but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He added, “I accept my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented known weaknesses from his squad in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell like this with performances like these.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
