Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers launched a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable adjustments:

  • Every squad includes only 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for players seeking alternative ways to have fun with the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Community Reactions: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while another lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," adds another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Input

All that said, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. Another describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
