The British tennis star Emma Raducanu will not compete in her final two events this season as a result of a medical condition she has been battling for the last week and a half.
At 22 years old was due to play in tournaments in Tokyo and Hong Kong but has decided to fly home to recover ahead of launching next year's training.
Those preparations will include coach Francisco Roig, as the pair have decided to continue collaborating in 2026.
The tennis professional underwent blood pressure monitoring in her opening round versus Ann Li in the Wuhan tournament and retired when behind 6-1 4-1 on a very muggy occasion.
Another medical visit was necessary medical attention at the recent Ningbo Open, where she was defeated in three sets to local wildcard Zhu Lin in the first round.
She was also playing with clear difficulty in the third set against Zhu due to back discomfort that has affected her on several occasions in 2025.
Those results meant an encouraging season, in which Raducanu rose into the top 30 globally for the first time for the first time since 2022, ended with three successive defeats.
Raducanu had three match points then was defeated by American player Jessica Pegula in round three in last month's Beijing event.
The player achieved 28 matches this year and made it to the semi-final round in Washington, but her most impressive week was at March's Miami Open.
The British number one advanced to the quarters of a premier WTA event, beating eighth seed Emma Navarro on the way then falling in three sets to fourth-ranked Pegula.
She worked with Mark Petchey from the Miami event through Wimbledon, with Francisco Roig stepping in in time for the US Open.
The original arrangement with Rafael Nadal's former coach was for the remainder of the year but the collaboration persists, with a training session scheduled in the coming months.
She mentioned that a three-day test period with Roig post-Wimbledon was like a "black ops mission" as the meeting was kept under wraps.
She nearly succeeded to overcoming Sabalenka, the world number one at their initial event as a team in Cincinnati during August.
The coach also accompanied Raducanu in the New York tournament, where she advanced to round three prior to losing to 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
