Line of Duty Announced for Seventh Season on BBC
The beloved crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th installment, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode season created by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The previous season wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
The seventh season begins with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue working to tackle corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.
However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, plot details suggested.
In a statement, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."

The Scottish actor called being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
