New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their latest talk.

“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His family, they’re in good spirits and he is expected to recover fully.”

The coach did not know when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Still unsure,” the coach said. “But I will say this, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD released video stills earlier this week of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack is currently under review and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt according to reports.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday about halfway between Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, in his late twenties, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since learning of the incident. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife just had a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.

Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was projected as a key part of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on early August and was carted from the field.

Boyd continued to be present all season long while working his way back.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He joined Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
