Person Who Approached Ariana Grande at Movie Premiere Prohibited from Singapore
A man from Australia that leaped past a barrier and touched Hollywood star Ariana Grande has been deported and banned from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, aged 26, was sentenced to over a week in detention for being a public nuisance and has now been "barred from re-entering Singapore," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority told local media.
Wen pushed beyond security and rushed toward the performer and artist, who was present at the Asian premier for the musical adaptation on the thirteenth of November. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
The individual has a record of disrupting concerts and high-profile gatherings, including rushing the stage at a Katy Perry performance in Sydney in the past June.
The occurrence sparked outrage in Singapore, with several individuals claiming he of causing further distress to the star.
The pop star has discussed dealing with PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at her show in the English city in May 2017 killed 22 individuals and hurt numerous attendees.
During Wen's trial, the authorities learned he had made efforts to breach on the film's premiere twice, according to local news sources.
He then made a another effort to jump the barricades. Security staff stopped him and restrained him.
Wen later posted video clips appreciating the celebrity for letting him on the carpet and said he was "released."
Law enforcement arrested him the next day and charged him with public nuisance, to which he confessed.
The District Judge the judicial official was cited by Channel News Asia as saying that he was looking for publicity, commenting that he was wrong to believe he would not experience repercussions.
The singer has not commented on the situation.
The co-star discussed the event to the press, stating that she "simply desired to verify my co-star was protected."
"I believe he had no intention to us injury, but you cannot be certain with these incidents, and I sought to confirm that she was fine. That was my first instinct," she commented.
