Shock as Renowned South African DJ Killed in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A popular South African radio and club DJ has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation grappling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the central business district on a Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the forty-year-old presenter was confronted by three suspects, with one began shooting at him before running away.
The motive of the incident has not been established and no arrests have been made, police said.
How It Happened
Police indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was departing from a location close to the city center landmark.
He had devoted time at the property supervising the setup of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by unknown people, according to reports.
"The report indicates the deceased was confronted by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before running from the location on foot," a police statement said.
Security camera video reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocks and dressed in what appeared to be a security uniform shooting on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was hit but collapsed across the street.
Officials noted that Stock had an gun that was not fired and no items were stolen during the attack.
Crucial forensic evidence, like bullet casings, were found at the scene.
Appeal for Witnesses
Officials are asking anyone who saw the event who may have seen the suspects to assist with the investigation.
"Evidence suggests they walked a long distance after the shooting, and police have been attempting to locate them to find their destination," stated a police chief.
Family and Public Reaction
His family member, Nicole Stock, stated the loved ones are reeling to understand the tragedy.
"I am in shock. I cannot express the pain," were her words.
"We know he was a representative for countless citizens. He spoke out bravely about issues not many people were prepared to speak about. This is a devastating blow."
She appealed to the community to avoid sharing disturbing footage from the incident, explaining this was an extremely painful time, above all for Stock's children.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that premiered on a popular local TV network.
In addition to his work in broadcasting, Stock was active in various business ventures, including protective services, supplying elite guarding services and securing major functions across South Africa.
He was also understood to participate in building administration and participated in tenant removals.

His death has sent the nation reeling and triggered an outpouring of tributes from his audience, the government and various organizations.
A senior figure commented he was angry and saddened by Stock's untimely death.
"He expressed his views without fear or favour. He even spoke up against me and my actions as a public official. He was a true embodiment of who we should be," he stated.
A political leader said the "brazen murder of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a tragedy for all South Africans".
A broadcasting director noted that "Stock was not merely a TV personality. He was a gifted communicator, a true devotee of sound and a generous spirit who brought excitement and dynamism to every moment on screen. His dedication to creativity left an lasting impression."
In a statement, the channel he worked for declared Stock was known for his magnetism, warmth and quick humor, adding that his memory "will endure".
