The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life free from concern.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, provided by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
