The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
